Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa, an area of special beauty in the northwestern part of the island, is the most famous tourist resort of Corfu (Kerkyra), with immense olive groves, hills wooded with pines, rocky shores and small coves with golden beaches.

Here, you can visit the Kastromonastiro (fortified monastery) of Virgin Mary (1228), a Byzantine building, on the highest peak of a bright green hill, with excellent view. In the museum of the monastery you shall sea a remarkable collection of Byzantine icons and ecclesiastical heirlooms. Don’t forget to visit the traditional settlements of Doukades, Lakones and Krini.
