Ithaca Island - Ithaca holidays Greece

Ithaca island is the second smaller island of the Ionian Sea after Paxi. It is situated northeast of Kefalonia, to which it belongs administratively, at a distance of 2 nm.

Ulysses’ homeland according to Homer. It has become the symbolic destination of every homeland since Homer’s epos Odyssey which describes the adventurous return of Ulysses, king of Ithaca, after the Trojan war.

Ithaca Greece, though poor in wealth-producing resources, is one of the prettier in the Ionian Sea.

Vegetated, with picturesque villages, whose architecture hasn’t altered by the recent tourist development, many small bays and mostly pebble beaches with enchanting crystal green and blue water.

Vathi is the capital, a beautiful, picturesque fish village.

Ithaca holidays are ideal for those seeking calm and pleasant.
Wander in the villages and speak with the friendly locals. Enjoy unique walks at the shoreline and on mountain trails. Taste traditional dishes and travel through archaeological finding to Ulysses’ Ithaca

The one sure thing is that Ithaca will capture you.

The poet Konstantinos Kavafis wrote in his poem “Ithaca”:
As you set out for Ithaca hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
And may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.
But don't hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you're old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you've gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaca to make you rich.
Ithaca gave you the marvellous journey.
And if you find her poor, Ithaca won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you'll have understood by then what these Ithacas mean”.
