Kithira, or Cerego like the locals call it, is the southernmost Ionian island, southeast of Peloponnese, and is the only island of Eptanisa which while geographically belongs to Peloponnese, administratively belongs to Piraeus prefecture and not to the Ionian islands precinct. Kythira holidays offers beautiful beaches with crystal clear water, picturesque villages with old mansions, flowery yards and traditional coffee shops, paved alleys, all-white churches and numerous natural beauties compose the island’s scenery for its visitors. Kithira is also known as the island of Aphrodite, because according to Hesiod this was the goddess’s birth place. Kythira island was habited and conquered by many nations, but never by the Turks. |

The most developed tourist resort of the island is the natural port of Kapsali. At 38 km from Kythira Greece, between Kithira and Crete, there is Antikithira island, or Lii like the locals call it, a small, barren island. Antikithira is known since 1900, when an ancient shipwreck of 80 b.C. was found in its sea bed carrying the copper statue “The Adolescent of Antikithira” and the Astrolabe of Antikithira (the first known computer in world history) which are exposed in the National Archaeological Museum. |
