Ehinades (Echinades) are small islands in the river mouth of Aheloos (Acheloos) river and have been formed by mater stowed by the river. They are situated between the coasts of Kefalonia and Etoloakarnania, Western Greece.
According to Greek mythology they were nymphs punished by Acheloos (who was a god) because they would not worship him.
This is where the well-known Naval Battle of Nafpaktos (1571) actually took place and not exactly in Nafpaktos, Western Greece.
Nowadays, they have very few permanent inhabitants and are under the Municipality of Ithaca. Some of the most known isles of Ehinades are Petalas, Doulihio, Makri, while the biggest ones are Dragonera, Kalogeros and Oxia.+
