Avlemonas ( 1 Vote ) |
The picturesque port in Avlemonas has no similarity to any other big and organized beach. However the boulders and the rest of the scenery will tempt you to take a plunge (Loutro). An ideal place for children because there are facilities for dinning or enjoying a soda or same coffee. It is situated in the middle, east end of the island. There is a very easy access and the sea is almost always calm.
St Pelagia ( 0 Votes ) |
A beach with thin sand, ideal for swimming when west or south winds are blowing. St Pelagia beach isn’t organized, but nearby you will find cafés, restaurants, mini markets and other tourist shops. The beach is at the northeast side of Kithira and stretches along St Pelagia village. It has a very easy access because it’s a part of the main road.

The most famous and, maybe, the best beach in the island. With its clear water and pebbles both the beach and the surrounding area will charm you. With east orientation, the beach is ideal when there is west or south winds. It has an easy access. One thing that might challenge you though are the 60 step that lead to the shore. You should came here prepared because it isn‘t organized. Nearby you may eat or have some coffee in Sandia or Avlemonas.

It is the beach with the prettier natural colours, decorated with multicoloured pebbles. It is crowded and you may have some difficulty in parking. However the beach will compensate you.

A double sandy beach (separated by a rock) in the port of Chora, the picturesque Kapsali. Both beaches have sand and pebbles. The first one is rocky while the second has many cafes and restaurants. These beaches are well known and although in summer they are highly frequented you will never feel crowded. They have wonderful blue water and are ideal for children. From there you may also see Avgo island.

Komponada is one of the most harsh beaches of the island, but quiet, with big pebbles and very deep water. It is at the east side of Kithira. The beach has gained the EU Golden Starfish Award for its clean water and is one of the most picturesque beaches in the island.

At the southwest of the island and on the foot of St Elesa Mountain you may find Melidoni. The clear water, the sand and the general peace and quiet at the beach with relax you and make you forget where you are. Ideal winds: north and west. You may combine swimming in Melidoni with a visit to Panagia Mirtidotisa’s monastery. After following the signs to Drimonas village and after taking with you water (because the canteen on the beach may be closed) follow the signs, pass St. Kosmas' Monastery and then after some kilometres of passable dirt road you will end up in Melidoni.
Milopotamos - Kalami ( 0 Votes ) |
One of the unknown beaches of the island and one of the most charming, with blue water and many rocks. The beach has a fairly difficult access: You may get there from Milopotamos village, at the west side of the island, and after asking locals for directions (there are no signs) you must have as points of reference the village cemetery and then the picturesque Panagia Orfani’s church. Shortly after this church the dirt road ends and a hiking begins. At the end of the road you must leave your vehicle and follow the trail in frond of you. After almost 15 minutes of hiking and climbing down very steep boulders you will reach Kalami beach. Accessing there is surely very difficult but the scenery will absolutely compensate you.
Paleopoli ( 1 Vote ) |
Just before Avlemonas village and after Sandia, at your right hand side, there is the longest beach of the island. A very wide beach with eastern orientation, covered with sand, with a strong scent of thyme and other herbs and full with small Madonna lilies. The beach is composed by two beautiful sandbanks, Piatsa in the east and Limni in the west, and will remind you an island of the Aegean Sea. Just over Piatsa, on a low hill, there is a small cavity in the decayed rocks, Aphrodite’s bath, where it is believed that the Goddess of beauty and love bathed.

One of the most famous beaches of the island with pebbles, rocks, steep mountain sides and blue water. It is situated at the south part of the island and to get there you must pass through Kalamos village, after following a dirt road. You shouldn’t count on finding an open canteen, so you should take with you everything you might need. Ideal winds for swimming there: east, north and west.
You may also visit the north beaches: Likodimos (ideal for fishing), St. Lefteris (the road is in poor condition), Ligia and Petritis (inaccessible), St. Nicolas, Platia Amos, Fourni bay, Firi Amos (one of the two in Kithira with the same name), Lorenzo’s and Kalamitsi beach (one of most important in the area). At the west side of the island, in the centre of it, you may also visit Limnionas beach. North of Limnionas there is a cave in the sea, named Seal cave, because seals used to live there. South from Limnionas, the dirt road starting from Mirtidion’s monastery and heading west towards the island shores leads to the small Limnaria beach which is ideal for fishing.
