Mylopotamos

Mylopotamos is a traditional village, 15km from Hora, the capital of the island and built in one of the most beautiful spots on the island, surrounded by lush vegetation, in a wooded valley. The village is divided into three communities, Kato (Lower) Hora, Limnionas and Aghia Sophia. In Mylopotamos, there are few rooms to let.

In the region of Mylopotamos, you will see the major natural attractions of Kythira. You can visit the waterfall of Fonissa (which means “murderess”) and the cave of Aghia Sophia, with rich stalactite decoration, whose entrance was used as a church. Kato Hora is a community with the oldest architectural features. Here, at the end of the village, you will see the small Venetian castle, built on the extension of a cliff, with the lion of St. Mark, symbol of the Venetian occupation, at its gate. In a green area, in addition, you will see the monastery of Panaghia (Virgin Mary) Orfani (which means orphan) and the churches of Aghios Theodoros, Aghia Anastasia and Aghios Minas.

Moreover, you can walk in the village, admire the traditional architecture, and drink your coffee in the village square under the shade of broad-leaved trees.

Sand-Beach

One of the unknown beaches of the island and one of the most charming, with blue water and many rocks. The beach has a fairly difficult access: You may get there from Milopotamos village, at the west side of the island, and after asking locals for directions (there are no signs) you must have as points of reference the village cemetery and then the picturesque Panagia Orfani’s church. Shortly after this church the dirt road ends and a hiking begins. At the end of the road you must leave your vehicle and follow the trail in frond of you. After almost 15 minutes of hiking and climbing down very steep boulders you will reach Kalami beach. Accessing there is surely very difficult but the scenery will absolutely compensate you.
