Lefkada is a beautiful island, famous, mostly, for its crystal waters and wonderful beaches. However, here you will come across very interesting sights and locations. You will find the most important sights of the island in Lefkada town, the capital of the island. Here, you will meet the impressive castle of Aghia Mavra, the archaeological site of the ancient town of Lefkada, pretty and neat churches and monasteries, the archaeological and cultural museums, the famous park of Bosketo, with the collection of busts of renowned poets and other artists of Lefkada, the libraries (municipal and Haramoglios), the museum of the phonographs.

Lefkas Archaeological Sights and Castles

Lefkada is inhabited since the Neolithic era. Here, you can visit a great number of archaeological sites, starting from Lefkada town, continuing north to the municipalities of Ellomenou (Nydri) and Apollonion (Vassiliki) and ending up to the island of Kalamos.

Lefkas Churches and Monasteries

Lefkada was full of churches and monasteries. One of the most remarkable church is Aghios Spyridonas, in Lefkada town, built in the late 17th century. Also, a beautiful church is Aghios Nikolaos, built in 1687, with wonderful doors, windows in baroque style and with icons of Eptanesian artists. The church of Pantokrator has also wonderful icons of Eptanesian artists and here, lies the famous local poet, Aristotelis Valaoritis.

In Lefkada, you can make a tour to the museums of the island, archaeological and folklore. You will find them at Lefkada town, in the Municipality of Karya, the mountainous Lefkada, in the Municipality of Ellomenos on the east Lefkada and on the northwest of Lefkada, in the Municipality of Sfakiotes.
